Volunteer Needed
The NHS Library needs a volunteer for 30 minutes on Tues, Wed and Friday to allow Ms. Fabin to have a lunch break. Can you help? If so, email karrisafabin@northampton-k12.us

Tea & Coffee Donations
Tea and Kurigg donations gratefully accepted. Thanks to our Librarian Karrisa, a tea cart has been set-up for our student’s enjoyment and opportunity to unwind. Label and drop off donations in the main office.
We use (in order of most needed)
-Hot Cocoa (packets, cans, K-cups anything) Very popular
-Powdered creamer or creamer cups (preferably flavored)
-Tea (in bags preferably or K-cups)
-Coffee (K-cups or anything I have refillable K-cups)
-Snacks that don’t need refrigeration (fruit has been very popular)
Especially on days when students have an HCC class late or a practice or other after-school event the library has been a very popular spot for a “recharge”

Return OVERDUE Library Books Now
I need to inventory the library soon. This involves counting ALL the books! To do this I need all of you to return the books you have that belong to the library that are overdue or you are not currently using. If you have lost a book come see me! (or if you are not sure)

Other Donations
We also really like games & puzzles that are in great shape and not missing pieces!
Lysol or Clorox wipes

New Neat Stuff!!
Ever wonder where all the new things came from you see in the library?
Ms. Fabin uses www.donorschoose.org (just search for Fabin)

The library has a few projects up that the community can support and donate to. Many of them are “matching offers” that will be matched by a company like Google or a private donor. This is how Ms. Fabin has obtained many of the neat new things in the library.

Ms. Fabin also writes to businesses in the community who donate products and gift certificates that she can use as reading incentives and fun prizes for awesome projects.

There is a “Thank You board” in the library that she keeps up to date with names of people and places that have donated to our lovely little library. If you or you students would ever like to express your gratitude please stop by and make a Thank You note or drop off a picture or just admire the amazing, inspiring and generous community we have!

and again 💞THANK YOU 💞 for helping to make the library so fun and inviting!

Northampton High Quiz Team Fundraising for Trip to National Competition in Atlanta

The Northampton High School Academic Team has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover travel expenses to attend the 2017 High School National Championship Tournament in Atlanta, GA, over Memorial Day Weekend. The team qualified for the nationals at a high school quiz competition in Burlington, VT, in December when they placed second out of 42 New England teams. The NHS team of five will be represented by seniors Josh Dobrow and Matt Grimaldi, and juniors Joe Bosco, Henry Reade and Jesse Zeldes. Team coach and NHS Math teacher Mark Hanson will accompany the team to Atlanta. Up to 288 teams, which qualified through their performances at tournaments using NAQT questions that are held regionally throughout the 2016-2017 school year, will compete in Atlanta.

The NHS team was excited to attend the national event until they saw the cost of attending; plane fare costs over a thousand dollars, and the base event registration fee is $675. The GoFundMe site, which will help defray these costs as well as hotel expenses, has raised just over 10 percent of their $3,000 goal. The team is also selling raffle tickets for a fruit basket generously donated by State Street Fruit Market, and planning additional fundraising events. The NHS Academic Team is currently topping the WGBY As Schools Match Wits season leaderboard in first place with 370 points after the first round. Playoff rounds will continue later this spring to crown this season’s winning team. NHS team president Matt Grimaldi says, “We want the opportunity to represent our school at the national level, and we believe we can be extremely competitive if we’re able to attend. Any support at all, even a dollar, will push us closer to our goal. Thank you.”

Ever wonder where the library gets all this neat stuff?

Short answer: From you! 💞Thank you! 💞

Long answer:

Ms. Fabin uses www.donorschoose.org (just search for Fabin)

The library has a few projects up that the community can support and donate to. Many of them are “matching offers” that will be matched by a company like Google or a private donor. This is how Ms. Fabin has obtained many of the neat new things in the library.

Ms. Fabin is still looking for adult volunteers to cover her lunch break on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday so she can keep the library open all day.

The library will always accept donations of Hot Cocoa, Tea, Coffee & Kcups.
We also really like games & puzzles that are in great shape and not missing pieces!

Every once in a while we like to wipe down all surfaces with Lysol or Clorox wipes (especially during flu season) so we can all stay healthy! If you have any extra or would like to donate some the library will be very grateful!

Jeromie Whalen NHS Technology Teacher wins PBS Digital Innovator Award

Jeromie Whalen wins PBS Digital Innovator Award

Jeromie Whalen recently toured WGBY and filmed an advertisement about his designation as a PBS Digital Innovator.
The PBS Digital Innovators program defines PBS Digital Innovators as “setting the bar for thoughtful tech integration in the classroom. These pre-K-12 educators are not defined by the gadgets they use, but by the unique way they approach education. Their bold and enthusiastic perspective sets them apart as changemakers, and unlocks new worlds for their students.”

NCTV-Media Production Grants

nctv1
This is the 4th year that Northampton Community Television has run its Media Production Grants program, which launched yesterday.

Information can be found at http://northamptontv.org/grants

This year an all new grant opportunity is provided in the amount of up to $1000 for a community member to run a one week summer program in multimedia for youth at NCTV. We have much of the resources including space and equipment to run the program already on-site.

Included again is our annual grant of up to $2000 in support of the production of a youth short film. The last three years have produced content of exceptional quality that we have been so very proud to support.

We would encourage the dissemination of these opportunities for youth and youth instructors throughout the community. In addition, there are grants available to the general public, including Northampton youth, for the production of a short film (up to $2000), the creation of a Interactive/VR experience (up to $2000) and the creation of a Community Art piece with a multimedia component (up to $1000).

Thank you much. Feel free to contact Al Williams at palwilliams@northamptontv.org with any questions.
