A message from the NHS Administrative Team…

January 6, 2021

Dear NHS Community,

There are no words adequate enough to describe, explain, or truly understand the events at the Capitol in Washington D.C earlier today and continuing into this evening. We are saddened and concerned not only for the people directly affected by the actions of the few but also for our community of educators, students, and caregivers who have to watch and process everything they are learning this afternoon.

This is an unprecedented historical event, one we will learn more about in the coming days. We are now confronted with identifying the implications of behaviors such as these and needing to decide who we are and who we want to be as individuals, as a community, as a nation. Northampton High School stands united against violence, hatred, racism, bigotry, and oppression. Together we stand for compassion; the peaceful and enthusiastic exchange of ideas; diversity; the power of education to create change; and the values and principles of our democracy.

We acknowledge that our community is already in the midst of a stressful time managing the pandemic and this day may compound the emotional, physical, and social challenges with which we have been grappling. In the coming days, it may be hard for staff and students to make sense of this. We encourage you to reach out to us and ask for support. We encourage you to offer support to colleagues and peers. If you see someone struggling, say something…to them, to us, to a trusted adult.

We are thankful to be part of this community and know that we are stronger together.

United with you,
Northampton High School Administrative Team,
