NHS Math Chair Anisa Schardl has brought to our attention that the school is in need of a large number of scientific calculators.
The preferred model is a TI-36X Pro, which is solar powered! These are not graphic calculators, but have high functionality and good models can be purchased for about $17 each.
Yes, there are calculator apps on phones, but the use of cell phones is not encouraged during class time, nor allowed for SAT exams.
Also, if families want to donate old graphing calculators, Anisa says the department would love to take those. “We have 2 (soon be 4) classrooms where we teach AP statistics or AP calculus, and those rooms could use classroom sets of graphing calculators. AP stats needs specifically the TI-84 Plus graphing calculator, while calculus can use any type of graphing calculator. Any extras could go to the Student Union; they are putting together a lending library of graphing calculators and other materials for students who need those things.”
