NHS Pedestrian Safety Update

Monday, November 22 is the anticipated start date for new No Parking / No Stopping signage to be installed on the Elm Street side of Childs Park, directly across from Northampton High School. This area currently is marked for several parking spots which will be removed as part of this trial no-parking/no-stopping zone.

Effective November 22, 2021: No Parking / No Stopping Zone, N. Elm Street (Childs Park on right, NHS on left)

This temporary safety change will be made by the Northampton DPW, in response to over 570 survey responses and comments about this dangerous section of Elm Street for pedestrians and bikers.

Additionally, the Northampton Parking & Transportation Commission will discuss the proposed installation of a N0 U-Turn sign on the N. Elm Street island directly in front of NHS (circled below) at their December 21 meeting.

Please use care and caution when driving and stopping around Northampton High School. We appreciate your patience and understanding during busy drop-off times, especially. Please consider using alternate drop-off spots further away from NHS to alleviate congestion whenever possible.

The DPW would like feedback on these proposed changes, so the PTO will conduct another survey after the No Parking / No Stopping signs have been in place, and compile responses in advance of the December 21 Parking & Transportation Commission meeting.
